Wind Vane for Wind Direction Measurements
Need a robust, accurate and reliable sensor for measuring wind direction?
This is an 8 position wind direction sensor designed for agriculture, meteorological and environmental monitoring applications.
It has a stepped DC voltage output from 0 to 3.3VDC and can be powered from 5-30V DC.
I've used many different wind vanes in different projects, from very low cost ones which have snapped or degraded over time to very expensive ones which were great, but too expensive to install in many locations. The sensor we have sourced here is a good balance between reasonable cost, accurate data and good robustness.
The datasheet for this unit is available here.
Note: You will need to wire this up to your microcontroller and implement correct pulse monitoring code to obtain measurements from this sensor. You could look at using our Wind Sensor Interface unit from The Curious Electric Company – this has been specifically designed to accurately read an anemometer and wind vane and return average values.
